Journal submission deadline approaching
Dear members of our informal Circle on the Promotion of African Languages,
Yes, we need your help! The deadline for submissions for the inaugural issue of the new Language Policy in Africa journal is fast approaching: it is 31 May 2024. (We will accept submissions on an ongoing basis afterwards, but they won't be for the inaugural issue). The submission site is https://bop.unibe.ch/LPIA . For the time being, we accept submissions in English and in French.
For now, there are two things you can do to help:
Consider submitting yourself! If you have a paper that you think might fit the scope of the journal, please submit!
2. Help to spread the word! All of you are active on social media and you must all participate in networks of like-minded scientists and analysts. Please share the attached call for submissions and/or the general submission information with your networks! We want to make sure that we reach as many relevant people as possible.
In addition, if you have not already done so, you can create an account on the Journal website so that you start to receive announcements, but also for reviewing purposes: we expect that we will have to call on some of you in the coming months in order to assist with the peer review process.
Webinars
After the succesful series of webinars last year, we hope to resume again some time in September. If you are interested in giving a presentation and talking about your work or ideas, do let us know!
New members
This time, we are happy to welcome six new members: Abayneh Haile, English Language Professionals Association, Ethiopia; Dr Mohomodou Houssouba, Centre for African Studies, University of Basel, Switzerland; Dr Busani Maseko, Lupane State University, Zimbabwe; Dr Troy Spier, Florida A&M University, USA; Dr Nkechi Ukaegbu, University of Nsukka, Nigeria; and Dr Stella Afi Makafui Yegblemenawo, KNUST, Ghana. We are happy that Dr Houssouba has also joined the editorial board of the Journal. Circle membership now stands at 90 individuals - let's try to reach 100 soon!
Changes? People change jobs, get promotions, change e-mail addresses etc. Please check if the information we have about you on the website is still accurate and let us know about any changes or updates you would like us to make.
Whatsapp group: there are now 37 members in our 'Afrilang' Whatsapp group (it is not a very intensive group, at the moment). If you are already a member - don't hesitate to share your triumphs, frustrations, tips, and questions! If you are not in but would like to be, send your Whatsapp number as a reply to this message.
All the best,
Bert (on behalf of Comfort, Sarita, and Taiwo).
