Brief update, June 2024
Dear members of our informal Circle on the promotion of African languages,
A few brief pieces of information this time...
Language Policy in Africa Journal
We have received a nice number of submissions for the Journal and we expect to start the peer review process for some of the submissions in about one month's time. We are counting on many of you to collaborate in the peer review process!
The Journal is now receiving submissions on an ongoing basis - if you want to see your language policy paper published soon, you are encouraged to submit soon! Your help in spreading the word about the journal in your networks is appreciated.
If you are interested in doing a book review for the Journal, let us know!
The Circle at upcoming conferences
We will be present at the upcoming VAD Conference in Bayreuth, Germany in October. Note that early bird registration for this Conference ends soon: on the 10th of June! Attendance is possible either face to face or online, but both carry a fee. If you are planning to attend, let us know - we may be able to organize a member meeting at this event.
We will also be present at the Swiss Africa Research Days in October - more information will follow.
Circle member publications
We will be happy to circulate information about relevant recent member publications through these updates! Please remember to inform us whenever you manage to publish something. One publication you may be interested in: Circle member Mary Edward has co-edited a volume called 'Studies on Indigenous Signed and Spoken Languages in Africa', published by Cambridge Scholars.
New members
This time, we are happy to welcome Dr Kehinde Adeosun and Dr Emmanuel Chinaguh, both of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria; Prof Dr Akinbiyi Alinlabi, Rutgers University, USA; Dr Olesegun Morakinyo, UNISA, South Africa; and Dr Thenjiswa Ntwana, University of the Western Cape, South Africa.
Please check the information we have on you - people change jobs, get promoted, etc - if that happens, please let us know! Thus, Circle member Addisalem Yallew is no longer a PhD student but now a Doctor herself.
Again - if there is anything you feel might be interesting to others, do let us know either via the mail or via WhatsApp and we will be happy to share the information.
Best regards,
Bert (also on behalf of Comfort, Sarita and Taiwo).
