Brief update, July / August 2024
Dear members of our informal Circle on the promotion of African languages,
A few brief pieces of information this time...
Going to WOCAL?
Some of you are certainly planning to attend the upcoming 11th World Congress on African Linguistics, due to take place in Nairobi from 5 to 9 August. Perhaps you will be able to seek out other Circle members and make new acquaintances. If you meet other like-minded people who might profit from being part of our little network, let them know about us and the possibility of joining free of charge!
Circle member publications
We will be happy to circulate information about relevant recent member publications through these updates! Please remember to inform us whenever you manage to publish something. One publication you may be interested in: Circle members Seraphin Kamdem, Comfort Ojongkpot and undersigned have published Decolonizing Cameroon’s language policies: a critical assessment in Applied Linguistics Review. It is available in open access.
Language Policy in Africa journal
Peer reviews have started for the first batch of articles that were submitted. The Journal is now receiving submissions on an ongoing basis. Your help in spreading the word about the journal in your networks is appreciated. If you have recently read (or are planning to read) an interesting book that is relevant for language policy and would like to do a book review for the journal – do let us know!
Again - if there is anything you feel might be interesting to others, do let us know either via the mail or via WhatsApp and we will be happy to share the information.
Best regards,
Bert (also on behalf of Comfort, Sarita and Taiwo).
